The New San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge

After all its controversy with bolts and cables throughout the years, finally on Tuesday September 3, 2013 after more than a decade and the $6.4 billion the new Bay Bridge has opened. It has a new look and it is quite impressive. The anticipations of the opening of the new Bay Bridge were on a lot of people’s minds. Especially for the commuters who have to drive the Bay Bridge on a daily basis. San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge is on all the post cards but the new Bay Bridge is not the ugly stepsister anymore. I personally have not been across the new Bay Bridge yet. I want to drive it in the day to see it in its entire splendor and at night with it all lit up.

Plane Crashes at San Francisco International Airport

There has not been a plane crash at San Francisco Airport for 77 years. On July 6, 2013 something no one wants to hear about let alone experience happened. Asiana Flight 214 from Seoul Korea crashed at the San Francisco International Airport while attempting to land. This plane crash appeared to have been far worse than it was. There were 307 on board, including 16 crew members. Officials reported 123 people escaped without injury. There were 181 people hospitalized and treated for injuries at Stanford Medical Centerand Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto. The two passengers that were killed in a fiery plane crash at San Francisco International Airport were identified as 16-year-old girls Wang Lin Jia and Ye Meng Yuan from China. They were on their way to summer camp in Southern California. Among the injured, 49 people are in serious condition at San Francisco General Hospital and out of that number five people including a child, remain in critical condition. Among the other people several were treated for minor injuries, including fractures and abrasions, and were released Saturday night. When the authorities released the voice recorder it seems to be pilot error. It appears to me that the pilot knew he was too low, and swerved to the right to miss the structure. Time will tell if it was due pilot area or mechanical failure. My prayers go out to all that were in this heartbreaking crash.

BART Union Strike Cripples San Francisco and Oakland Bay Area Commute

Bay Area Rapid Transit better known as BART went on strike on July 1, 2013 bringing the San Francisco and Oakland Bay Area to a crippling halt. A BART official reported that the union asked for 21% pay increase but were offer 8% over four and BART also offered to reduce the amount of employee contributions for pension and medical benefits. After days and long hours of negotiations SEIU Local 1021 did not get what they wanted and decided to strike. How greedy can some people be? SEIU Local 1021 in my opinion is greedy. Most of the country has not seen a raise in years or offered to contribute less to their pension and medical. Don’t get me wrong unions are good for keeping the employees work place safe for everyone. What about the people that depend on BART to get to work and school? If it weren’t for these 400,000 riders a week BART workers would not have a job. The traffic in the San Francisco and Oakland Bay Area is going to be a mad house. Be prepared don’t get discouraged hopefully this won’t go on for that long.

Brawl On Hippie Hill In San Francisco On 420 Day

What is 420 day? 420 day is April 20th the day that marijuana smokers get together and smoke out. It is considered their holiday. San Francisco California has a place called Hippie Hill. Well on April 20th a brawl took place on Hippie Hill. A few idiots went to San Francisco’s Hippie Hill with one thing in mind to cause trouble. Stoners are chilled laid back people. When you put people that consume a lot of alcohol and other drugs in the mix with weed smokers you have a disaster in the making. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for the legalization of marijuana. It is situations like this that give most marijuana smokers a bad rap. This is defiantly not helping the cause for legalizing marijuana.

Michelle Shocked Went on a Homophobic Tirade at a San Francisco Club

I saw Michelle Shocked in the late 90’s at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga California. My husband played the drums with her during that time. He used to tell me that B…. is crazy. Well, he was right. Michelle Shocked went on a homophobic tirade at Yoshi’s in San Francisco on March 17, 2013. She said "I live in fear that the world will be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry” and “God Hates Fags”. The audience was yelling for her to stop and started leaving. Yoshi’s pulled the plug on her. A spokesperson for Yoshi’s in San Francisco said that was the first time they had to pull the plug.  Michelle Shocked gave ridiculous apology. She said “I do not, nor have I ever, said or believed that God hates homosexuals (or anyone else). I said that some of His followers believe that.” She said confusingly “When I said… ‘Michelle Shocked says God hates f**s,’ I was predicting the absurd way my description of, my apology for, the intolerant would no doubt be misinterpreted.”  Michelle also went on to say, “But I am damn sorry,” she said. “If I could repeat the evening, I would make a clearer distinction between a set of beliefs I abhor, and my human sympathy for the folks who hold them.” Yea, she is crazy referring to herself in the third person. I did not meet her, but I met her husband and he seemed very strange. Michelle Shocked’s name fits her. She shocked the world and her career as well. We do not need anyone on stage spewing that kind of hate.

Baltimore Ravens Win Super Bowl

Super Bowl XLVII was one of the most hype games ever. The Harbaugh brothers finally met in Super Bowl XLVII. They came close last year, but Jim Harbaugh the younger brother and his team could not pull it off. Most the sports analysts and sports fans were going for the 49ers. They were so underestimating the Baltimore Ravens. When the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens were going to the Super Bowl, my husband born and raised in Baltimore and a San Francisco 49er fan all his life was telling everyone don’t underestimate the Ravens. The first half of the game looked like Baltimore Ravens with a 21-6 lead and their momentum was going to carry them to a victory. When Baltimore’s Jacoby Jones ran back a 109 kick return in the third quarter opener it seemed to look like Baltimore Ravens were on their way to victory. The 49ers had the ball it was 3rd down and 13 yard to go for a first down and the stadium lights went out on the San Francisco 49ers side. The lights went out for 35 minutes. The first thing I said was they pulled the plug to stop the Ravens from getting the ball back and scoring. After the light came back on the San Francisco 49ers went on a 23 point scoring frenzy making the score 34-29. It look like the lights going off was a definitely in the 49ers favor. It was not meant to be the final score was 34-31 Baltimore Ravens. San Francisco 49ers fans don’t be bitter, the 49ers played their heart out they should be proud. There is always next year.

Giant's Win World Series

.

The San Francisco Giants win another World Series title. This is the Giants 6th title, to go with their 1905, 1921, 1922, 1954 and 2010 titles. There has been one other National League team to have a sweep a team in the World Series, the 1990 Cincinnati Reds. The San Francisco Giants won two games straight at home, 8 to 3 and 2 to 0. The Giants went to Detroit won game three 2 to 0. The San Francisco Giants won the series in the fourth game with a sweep of Detroit in the 10th inning 4 to 3. This was a team effort. San Francisco took an early lead. Pence hit a one-hop drive over the center-field fence for a double and Brandon Belt tripled on the next pitch for a 1 to 0 lead in the second inning. The third inning, Cabrera gave the Tigers a reason to think this might be their night. He hit a two run home run giving the Detroit the lead 2 to1. The Giants put a dent in Detroit's confidence. Giants Scutaro led off the sixth with a single and then Posey sent a shot that sailed just inside the left-field foul pole for two more runs giving the Giants 3 to 2 lead. Then Cabrera turned around and hit a home run tying the game 3-3. The game continued all the way to the bottom of the 9th with the score still tied. In the 10th inning Marco Scutaro delivered one more key hit with a go-ahead single with two outs in the 10th inning giving the Giants the lead 4-3. In the bottom of the 10th Sergio Romo got Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera looking with his third strike for the final out.

The manager Bruce Bochy had the foresight to put this team together and it paid off big time.   The pitching was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in a World Series game. The hitting of the San Francisco Giants was also spectacular! The way Giants MVP of the series Pablo Sandoval put on a hitting clinic in game one was incredible. I was so excited that the Giants won the World Series again.  I think that 2 championships in less than 3 years are pretty amazing.  This shows how great the San Francisco Giants are. San Francisco Giants fans supported their team no matter what. The Giant fans in Northern California are gearing up for a parade on October 31, 2012. All you will be seeing is a sea of orange and black. It is time for celebration for the City of San Francisco and the Bay Area. Congratulations San Francisco Giants!

Mom Breastfeeding 3 Year old Son While He’s Standing on Chair

When I saw the cover of Time magazine, I laughed and said what a person would not do to be noticed. Jamie Lynn Grumet is a 26 year old model, decided to use her 3 year old son as a prop. This little boy is going to be known for standing on a chair sucking on his mother’s breast, on a national magazine cover. Jamie Lynn Grumet did not take into consideration on how this would affect her son in the long run. This little boy is going to be teased unmercifully, I feel so sorry for him. This 3 year old boy had no control over what his mother did, shame on you Jamie Lynn Grumet. Being a mother myself I wanted to breastfeed up to six months, but do to a health reasons that was not possible. I would not put my child in a situation like that, to be teased all his life. I think there should be a cut off for breast feeding of a child, when the child is walking, talking and is of preschool age that should be it. If you don’t agree, then do it in private. Hey! Is that why most men are fascinated with breasts did their mommies’ breast feed them until they were toddlers or older.

President Barack Obama Now In Support Of Same Sex Marriage

On May 9, 2012, President Obama came out and said that he is in support of same sex marriage. Back in 1996 when he was running for Governor of Illinois he checked a box that said “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.” When the President was elected, the same question was asked again it was the complete opposite, he said “marriage is between a man and a woman that was in 2004. In 2010 he said “my feeling are constantly evolving, I struggle with this”. In 2011 he was still struggling with it. I say it is about time that there is a President that came out in support of same-sex marriage. Remember he did check that box in 1996, he probably thought it was right back then. I think it is brave of President Obama, because homosexual should have the same rights as “the man and woman union”. I know in every family in this nation there is a family member or someone who knows a homosexual. I say yes, why not give them the right to marry they contribute to this society just like the heterosexuals do. They raise children, pay their taxes and are in the military. What is the big deal? Who knows if this will hurt Presidents Obama’s reelection? I just want say, he has the strength and poise of a great leader to change his mind and let the people know about it. No matter what happens with the reelection I am proud to call him President.

May Day Protest Got Out of Hand in Oakland and San Francisco

The May Day protests got out of hand in Northern California. In Oakland it started off peaceful, then by noon time the trouble makers started up with the Oakland Police. Some protesters with black shields with the letter “A” on it shoved the police lines, threw things at the police, pounded on police vehicles, threaten the police with a pole, 23 people were arrested. The Oakland Police in my opinion did very good to keep their composure with all they had to deal with that day. These Anarchists are trouble makers and they cause a perfectly peaceful and relevant protest to become tainted with things that they do. Thinking bad press will help the protest. Not only does the Anarchist do stupid things. In San Francisco 2 men threw pipes and bricks from on top of a building at the San Francisco police. They hit one man in the crowd in the head. What in the world was this dummy trying to prove? People like this in my opinion deserve to get treated the way they do from law enforcement because they don’t have in regards for others.

70 Occupy Protester Arrested in Raid at Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco

The Occupy Wall Street protester in San Francisco who took over Justin Herman Plaza in mid-October was raided and dismantled by police on December 7, 2011 in the early morning. The Occupy leadership and city official’s negotiations had broken down. City officials declared it to be public safety and health hazard; they had enough after what happened on December 3, 2011 the incident with the two protesters and the police officer who was hit in the face guard with a metal chair resulting in minor injuries. It seems to me you always have some stupid person who decides to throw a chair or something else, causing a non-violent protest to become violent this makes the majority of the protesters seems bad. When in actuality the protest is for a good cause. Now the Occupy San Francisco movement has to find another place to protest, they were offered a school at 16th and Mission, but they could not come together on whether to relocate. I think they should have taking the offer, at least they would have had a safe place to plan their tragedy to keep on protesting what they believed in bank bailouts and economic injustice. Actions of a two cause harm to the many!

Take me out to the BRAWL-game, take me out to the CROWD!

I'm an Oakland Raider fan who found it painful enough watching on TV as the rival 49ers took apart my team during last Saturday night's pre-season game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco...having to remind myself this was just practice!

Little did I know the REAL pain came from what the FANS were practicing in the stands, the bathrooms, and the parking lots!

More than a handful of violent brawls and a shooting left several folks injured, three very seriously, with one man still in life-threatening condition...all of which led to 39 justified arrests, and a good chance the NFL may cancel this annual pre-season game.

Like thousands of others, I checked out the internet replays on YouTube, watching two women punch each other out, an old gray-haired man shove a younger man back down three rows of seats, a few other sustained brawls between Raider and 49er fans flayling away clad in rival jerseys, with sparce security, and young children looking on!

"What in the hell is going on here?"  I mean, sure...this is nothing new! Violence has cast itself on most sports, and not just in America but world wide.

Check out the international history of sports violence and you'll find it all...beating deaths, mass stampedes, riots and murdered soccer referees--making what happened in San Francisco look tame!

However, it should not sway the arguement that something has got to be done, right HERE and right NOW!!

These lastest incidents have sparked another huge fire of controversy, just as the Bay Area was starting to simmer down after the "Brian Stow" incident in April, where an upstanding Giants fan (a paramedic no less) was nearly beaten to death in Los Angeles on opening day at Dodger Stadium.

Perhaps we should look to the past for possible solutions. Did fans drink and party as much before and during games back then?  What was security like at stadiums 40 years ago?  Probably much the same as today, with no secret security measures, just less people to secure!

I do remember watching my first live pro football game on September 3rd, 1967 at the Oakland Coliseum as the upstart Raiders lost to John Brody and the 49ers 13-10 in their first EVER meeting to close out that pre-season.

I saw no fights, altlhough there were probably lots of security guards, lots of beer, and just as many rowdy fans in an environment similiar to all the other NFL and AFL stadiums back then, confronted with controlling violence between rival fans in the stands!

It was interesting to remember who the big team bosses were 44-years ago!  John Rauch coached the Raiders, Jack Christianson coached the 49ers, and then ONLY part-owner and lowly general manager Al Davis had just celebrated his 38th birthday 2-months before.

I think even big Al, and thousands more would agree with me now that security should be stepped-UP significantly in a coordinated, well-thought out way....taking into account the realization (and I agree with this) that the majority of Bay Area fans are good people, and it is just the few ignorant, stupid, low-life, substance abusing, drunkard, socially crippled bullies out looking for trouble--THAT CAUSE IT!

Finally, here's one last security measure idea, and  I thought this up myself!  Let's call it the "sophisticated fan liazon screen" and place it at every stadium entrance gate, equipped with state-of-the-art, hygenically safe breathalizer testing hoses.

Every fan over the age of 12 MUST submit to a quick alcohol breath test,  and answer an eye-to-eye question by a designated security screener. Those failing either test...don't get in!  They can re-sell their ticket on the way out!

I know this may take time and big bucks to impliment, however, imagine adding this ENTRANCE SCREEN to already upgrated security, and decreased selling of alcohol...and I think parents would find it safe to take the kids to the big game again!

Thanks, and check out www.streetwisesd.com  for more blogs, and our very special "Streetwise Radio"

Sincerely,  PeteCam4

San Francisco Police Shooting 35 Arrested

A protest in San Francisco got out of hand. On July 16, 2011 19 year old Kenneth Harding was shot nine times after he shot at the police. This all could have been avoided, only if Kenneth Harding had not ran from and shot at the police first. The San Francisco police say they approached him for not paying his fair on the light rail train. Kenneth Harding in my opinion wanted to be shot because he knew if he was arrested the police would find out about his criminal past. Kenneth was a person of interest in a fatal shooting in Washington state if he wasn‘t guilty he would have not shot at the police. What really gets me is the way some protesters hear about a police shooting and start protesting when they don’t have all the facts which lead to the shooting in the first place. San Francisco police arrested 35 people for dropping a smoke bomb at the light rail station, throwing a hammer at the police station window and failure to disperse. I feel San Francisco police were in the right. Any sane person knows that if you shoot at the police they are going to shoot back. The protesters who were arrested needed to be arrested because ignorance can cause you to do stupid stuff.

Sex-Ting Is A Bad Idea

Now days with social media network sites people are putting their business out there for the world to see. Grade school children are using face book and twitter for sex-ting and bullying.

Congressman Anthony Weiner sent explicit photos of himself on twitter and then lied about it saying someone hacked is account. Then he cried like a punk a-- baby when he admitted he sent the pictures to the wrong site. How stupid is Congressman Weiner, first of all he should not have lied he should have manned up and told the truth. Now he is probably going to be investigated by the House Ethics Committee. As far as getting reelected or running for Mayor of New York, I think he blew his chances. If I lived in New York I would not vote for him, if he lied about this then what else does he have to hide? Some people are loosing their minds on these social networking sites, they don’t think about the repercussions of their posts. Maybe you posted something on face book two years a go and it comes back to haunt you in the future. All I can say is what my mother use to say “What you do in the dark always comes to the light”. Come on people you never know who’s watching you.

Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 Holes in Fuselage

Landing, Las Vegas.Image via Wikipedia
If you like flying Southwest Airlines out of San Francisco, Oakland and
San Jose like me, you better think twice. On Friday April 1, 2011, April
Fools Day of all days, flight 812 from Phoenix to Sacramento had to make
an emergency landing in Arizona. A 5-foot hole occurred in the fuselage 20 minutes after takeoff. I can only imagine what was going through the passenger’s minds, when all of a sudden the plane looses pressure and the
oxygen mask start falling.  Southwest airlines canceled 70 fights for Monday. Out of the old 79 Boeing 737-300 33 planes were returned for service, and two planes were found to have cracks in the fuselages so far.I am wondering how many more major problems they are going to find. What I
don’t understand is how they missed cracks like these when they are supposed to be inspected routinely. It seems to me that somebody is not doing their job. Southwest Airlines is probably not the only airlines with this problem with their older Boeing 737-300 planes. I hope the other
airlines, take what happened at Southwest seriously and inspect their older model planes. So we won’t have a senseless tragedy, due to negligence.

ANOTHER SENSELESS SHOOTING IN TUCSON ARIZONIA

TUCSON, AZ - JANUARY 8: Kish Finnegan, 48, of...Image by Getty Images via @daylifeOn January 8, 2011, eight days into the New Year Tucson, Arizona will never be the same. Jared Loughner a disturbed individual went on a shooting rampage killing six people and seriously injuring eight. Among the six people he killed was federal Judge John Roll. This senseless act by Jared Loughner has left a community grief stricken. Jared Loughner’s main goal was to assassinate Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford. What is so sad a nine years old girl was killed Christina Taylor Green.
Christina was at the event because she was interested in government. She was recently elected to the student council at her school. It is so sad that Christina will not get to see how far she could have gone in the government, if that was her path. She could have possibly been the President of the United States, we will never know. When Christina was born, she was featured in a book called “Faces of Hope” that chronicled one baby from each state born on September 11, 2001.

Jared Loughner is a coward and a sick individual; he needs to be put out of his misery! I do not care what excuse he gave. I do not like what the government officials are doing most of the time and many other people fill the same way, but were not going on a shooting rampage killing innocent people. I hope and prayer Jared Loughner is tried a convicted swiftly and so the people of Tucson can start healing. My prayers go out to the community of Tucson Arizona.

SAN BRUNO NEIGHBORHOOD GOES UP IN FLAMES

Gas Explosion, San Bruno, CaliforniaImage by DigitalGlobe-Imagery via FlickrOn Thursday September 9, 2010, a neighborhood in San Bruno was devastated when a natural gas line exploded. People where get home from work, children were getting home from after school activities. Ready to prepare dinner, get started on home work and do thing all of us do after a long day away home. Then all of a sudden everyone was running for their lives, as their neighborhood went up in flames. A lot of people escaped with their lives, but some did not. It is a good thing this happened during the day time instead of at night when people were in their beds asleep. The casualties could have been enormous.

This kind of thing could have happened in any neighborhood in this country. I hope and pray that PG&E move swiftly to find out the cause to this explosion and prevent it from happening again. Streetwise Special Delivery Courier Service sends our prays out to the community in San Bruno California.

There are far too many sad stories in the Bay Area these day

A rest in peace sign.Image via WikipediaThere are far too many sad stories in the Bay Area these days that support the case that "only the good die young"!

18-year old Kendra Fallon of San Francisco decided to spend her summer vacation on the other side of the world, volunteering to help kids at an orphanage in Nepal.

Unfortunately, her efforts were cut short Wednesday when Kendra and 14 others were killed in a plane crash while flying in bad weather outside Katmandu, thus depriving us of another bright star, who spent most of her life helping and inspiring others to make the world a better place!

That same night another tear-jerking tragedy hit in Oakland, California, when 13-year old track star Jimon Clark was shot and killed while walking home alongside his identical twin brother on Bankroft Avenue.

Like Kendra, Jimon was an over-achiever who's good deeds, magnetic personality, and bright future inspired fellow students, friends, family, teachers, and coaches.

He was eager to begin classes at Skyline High school, and set the track and field world on fire with numerous medals, as Kendra had done achieving countless honors at St. Ignatious College Preparatory.

Now, sadly, both Kendra's and Jimon's bright flames of hope and inspiration....have been extinguished.....far too soon!

I get sick each time I hear about tragedies like these which happen far too often, and I can't help but hope for some kind of silver lining, some kind of inspiration, some kind of good  that can possibly add comfort to survivors?

San Jose football star Pat Tillman gave up a million dollar NFL career to join the US Army Rangers and go to Afghanistan to fight terrorism immediately after 9/11.

When he was killed in action on April 22nd, 2004, I wept....having watched Pat play for Leland High school in 1993, and then as an Arizona Cardinal when they defeated the Raiders at the Oakland Coliseum in 2001.

It wasn't just how Tillman played football, but the positive way he tackled life, challenging its tough deeds in a quiet, determined way that pumped-up everyone around him!

Why did he have to go so soon....and, why did someone have to senselessly gun down a bright and promising young 22-year old city-councilman from Fairfield named Matt Garcia in September, 2008?

Like Tillman, Garcia was an up and coming star with the rare ability to relate to 12-year olds the same way he did 65-year olds, and who also died ironically, due to a fluke case of mistaken identity!

So did Albert Cobarrubias, an honor graduate of San Jose State University, and the city's first homicide victim of 2010....who was shot and killed while playing pool in a friends garage.

Some drive by, gang-banging "scumbag" miss took Albert for someone else, and may never be caught and punished for his crime!

Fortunately, Matt Garcia's killer was found, and prosecuted, however, that shouldn't be his family's only comfort, nor should it be a concerned society's only consolation!

We need to rise up and remember everything good that came from these fallen hero's, and try to live our lives as they lived theirs, so that our children and youngsters learn too!

I vow to live like and remember Kendra Fallon, Jimon Clark, Matt Garcia, Albert Cobarrubias, and Pat Tillman, as soul's who's many actions replaced words, yet, who's soft spoken way commanded the attention and respect of everyone they came to know!

They, and so many like them....will be missed!
