Pescadero One of California’s Last Frontiers has been invaded by Silicon Valley Billionaires

Growing up in San Jose California, I have seen a lot of change over the years. I remember my parents taking my siblings and me on day trips to places like Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, San Francisco and Pescadero. My dad had an aunt who lived in Pescadero on a small farm with horses, pigs, chickens and a couple of cows. I loved going there because we got to ride the horses. There was nothing like playing hard and eating the delicious food. Pescadero was like stepping back in time, back then.

Pescadero has remained a little part of nostalgia for years. Say it’s not so.  Pescadero one of California’s last frontiers has been invaded by Silicon Valley Billionaires. Locals say there are some problems to the invasion of tourists and outsiders, some of the Moneybags are committed to maintaining the agricultural character of the place. Where goat cheese-makers, artisans, intellectuals, farmers, ranchers and other rugged individualists exist in rustic harmony. Are they really?

I don’t think so. Tom Steyer retired hedge fund manager and ecological activist and his wife, entrepreneur and contributor Kat Taylor, own a 1,800-acre grass-fed cattle ranch in Pescadero. They consider it a learning laboratory for sustainable animal agriculture. Steyer said, “It is kind of magic, I think, the idea that there would be that much open space, that much wild space, that close to Silicon Valley and San Francisco,”.  “It’s pretty incredible. So we feel a lot of responsibility to make it available to as many people as possible.”

Okay, that’s all good but what about the middle class and the farmers in the area. Are they going to be push out to make way for other CEO’s? One of Google’s top executives is said to have a 1,500-acre ranch in Pescadero, where he has partnered with Pie Ranch. Where he sources food for the Mountain View campus from the sustainable Pescadero farm. What about Signe Ostby, the wife of Intuit co-founder Scott Cook? She breeds horses on her 2,220 acre ranch. Why didn’t she respond to the interview requests? What does she have to hide? Venture capitalist John Doerr owns nearly 1,400 acres. This is another community where gentrification will push out non wealthy people and families. The end of an era. In 5 years you probably won’t recognize the town of Pescadero and the rents will be out of this world.

Millennium Tower

San Francisco is a famous city in California, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world visit the city by the bay in a year. It’s is known for its attractions like, Lombard Street the crookedest street in the world. Then you have the world famous Fisherman’s Wharf, China Town and Alcatraz. Now it has the Leaning Tower of Millennium. Not!

This 58 story building was completed in 2009 on Market Street on the Southside. It was supposed to be the tallest building in San Francisco. Since its completion it has been sinking and leaning. It has sunk 16 inches and it has titled 2 inches. What the heck! In 2009 Raymond Lui chief building Inspector at the time, sent a letter to the Millennium Towers engineering firm. Concerned about the “larger than excepted settlements” and “what was being done about the sinking and if the building’s structural safety could be affected.” Just like those big firms being greedy and all about the money. They sent a reply from DeSimone Consulting Engineers, that the building had already unexpectedly settled 8.3 inches. But the engineering firm concluded, “It is our professional opinion that the structures are safe.” When Aaron Peskin the City Supervisor convened a hearing on the matter and asked Lui why the building was then certified safe for occupancy. He said, “We felt they had it under control.” Now 8 years later the founding partner of Millennium Chris Jeffries said, “We did this building the right way,” and “The building is 100 percent safe.” Now it’s the blame game. Jeffries blames the building’s problems on a neighboring building site where a city rail terminal is being built. He says the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, the public agency is building the $4.5 billion transit hub, dug a 60-foot hole to create a dry construction site and forced out millions of gallons of groundwater that wound up compressing and weakening the soil under the Millennium Tower. Transbay says the tower’s “inadequate foundation is the sole cause of the excessive settlement and tilt.” It released a statement saying the building had sunk 10 inches and started to lean before the agency broke ground in 2010. All those wealthy ones who couldn’t wait to own a piece of the Millennium Tower are probably thinking twice. Like Jerry Dodson, an attorney and engineer who paid $2.1 million in 2009 for his two-bedroom apartment on the 42nd floor. The Penthouse sold for 10 million.

All I know I couldn’t live in something like that and especially in San Francisco. With the big earthquake that is bound to come. Look what happen in the 1906 earthquake 3000 people lost their lives. I couldn’t even imagine how many loss of life there will be. They better fix this problem before something horrific happens.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Is On Its Last Leg

 

I remember when BART was open back in 1972, it was all the rage. It linked San Francisco, Oakland, Fremont and then Concord and Pittsburg. BART is coming to the San Jose in 2017. It’s about time.The only drawback is that BART is on its last leg in the North Bay. The system is 44 years old and the ridership has increased immensely. 100,000 more people ride BART than they did five years ago. This means BART carries about 440,000 passengers on an average weekday. People that ride BART daily are upset with BART because of the delays due to mechanical problems, over packed trains, price increases and run down stations. One line that is having major trouble is the Pittsburg-Bay Point and North Concord stations, it will be shut down intermittently  due to electrical surges on the tracks. It’s about time BART fixes the problem and stop putting a band aide on it. In November BART officials are planning to place a bond measure on the ballot for $3.5 billion to pay for fixing tracks, power systems, stations, other structures and the mechanical systems. Yes, people will be in an uproar because their taxes might get raised but they want it fixed.

I feel that all the people who ride BART should stop their whining and let Bart fix the whole system. I know it’s going to take some time but when it’s done think how smooth and easy your ride will be. One last thing, it’s better safe than sorry how about that!

San Francisco Police Officer’s Shoot Mario Woods 15 Times

It has been an ongoing occurrence for decades that the African American males have to put up with racism. The racial profiling has gotten to be an everyday event. The police are killing them off at an alarming rate. It seems that once a week you hear about some police officers shooting to death an unarmed or an armed with a knife an African American male. It’s like a turkey shoot! This has to stop. On December 2, 2015 around 4:30p.m., on the same day as the massacre in San Bernardino. Mario Woods was standing up against the wall supposedly holding a 15- to 20-centimetre knife, surrounded by 6 racist police officers pointing their guns at him. Mario Woods tries to walk down the path, away from four officers but towards one officer who steps towards him, the camera turns away and at least 15 gunshots were heard. Now this was a prejudiced shooting and you can’t say that it wasn’t. These six San Francisco racist police wanted to shoot someone after what happened in San Bernardino. Watch these six S.O.B.’s will probably get away with it like they always do. It is a shame!

San Francisco So Called Hot Cop Chris Kohrs’ Faces Felony Hit And Run Charges

Sitting here in San Jose California on a Sunny 45 degree morning listening to the news of this crazy world. One story that caught my ear, was the hot cop of the Castro in San Francisco arrested for a hit and run of two men. I thought what the heck, was this moron thinking. On November 30, 2015, 38 year old off duty police officer Christopher Kohrs was driving a Dodge Charger according police he struck two pedestrians, both were men in their 40s. This happened around 2 a.m. as the men crossed Broadway Street near Montgomery Street. What really got me was he had the never to flee the scene on foot. I know he didn’t think he was going to get away with it. Did all this fame go to his head and turn him into a complete idiot for him to forget all his police training. This moron is supposed to be a veteran. Authorities are investigating if he was in intoxicated. Da! Why else would police officer leave the scene, when he knows better? Hey, everyone wants their police to represent their communities. I guess you reap what you sow?

Shooting At San Francisco’s Famous Tourist Destinations Pier 14

I was born in San Francisco and lived there until I was two years old. I asked my mother when I was older, why she moved us to San Jose. Her answer was “San Francisco was not a place, she wanted to raise her children.” She told me that when she was growing up there it was hard and that the people there were very strange. Even though I did not grow up in San Francisco, I always enjoyed going back when I was older. Especially going to the famous Fisherman’s Wharf, China Town, Golden Gate Bridge and walking the piers. San Francisco is one of the world’s famous tourist destination. Millions of people visit San Francisco in a year. Is this going to hurt San Francisco’s tourist trade? I say no, because people are becoming so emotionless about events like this.

On July 1, 2015 Kathryn Steinle was walking along one of San Francisco tourist destinations, Pier 14 with her father. When she was shot to death by Francisco Sanchez, an illegal alien from Mexico. He had been deported five times. I know San Francisco is supposed to be a sanctuary city, but come on. Five times deported, that should have told somebody that this man should not be in this country. All of the city officials from the Mayor to law enforcement are blaming each other. I think their all of them are to blame. Especially I.C.E. for not coming to pick up Francisco Sanchez. This should not have happened. My prayers go out to Kathryn Steinle family and friends.

Zully Broussard

I have to say, that every now and then a true Angel appears. That is what Zully Broussard is, an Angel. She decided to give a total stranger one of her Kidney’s and this sparked a chain reaction for six other patients to receive Kidney’s. It took place at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, with the support staff of 40 to do these surgeries on 12 people. The patients who received these donor Kidneys were on the deceased donor lists. There were three parents and child pairs, one sibling pair and one brother and sister-in-law pair. Thanks to a computer programmer named David Jacobs who was on the deceased donor list years ago who received a Kidney from a living donor. It is much easier and faster for doctors and their staff to coordinate multiple Kidney transplants. David Jacobs created a Match Grid that genetically matches donor pairs or chains quickly. David Jacobs said “When we did a five-way swap a few years ago, which was one of the largest, it took about three to four months. We did this in about three weeks”. He is another Angel, think of all the lives is program saved.

When I was sixteen years old I got my driver’s license. Back then on your license you received a card specify that you wanted to be an organ donor. You would attach to your license. Back then I was thinking if something would happen to me, at least I would help save someone’s life. Little did I know 20 years later I would be diagnosed with Kidney failure and put on the deceased donors list? I was on Dialysis for 5 years. Once I was on Dialysis I felt better but being on it for so long it took a toll on my body. The deceased donor list is a long list and the waiting is agonizing. It doesn’t really matter where you are on the list if a match comes up. The match goes to the sickest person. In my case, I was the sickest person so I received the Kidney from the deceased donors list. It will be 8 years October 28, 2015, one day after my birthday. Now I celebrate the day I was born and the day I was reborn.

It doesn’t have to be this way if more people like Zully Broussard of Fair Oaks California would give this generous gift of life. There are currently 123,175 people waiting for lifesaving organ transplants in the U.S. of these, 101,170 await kidney transplants according to the Organ Donation and Transplantation Statistic as of September 8, 2014. I’m a firm believer we are all connected, no matter what race we are. God Bless you Zully Broussard.

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE CLOSURE

Yes yes people its 2015 and January is rolling by. Crazy how time flies. I'm here to spread the word about the closure of the world famous Golden Gate Bridge.The Bridge will be closed to install a movable median barrier which will provide a safer and more efficient system of separating opposing lanes of traffic. The bridge will be closed starting at 12:01 am on January 10th. And reopen Monday January 12 at 4:00 am. At least they didn't do the repairs during the holidays when traffic is at an all time high but The Bridge District is issuing a ‘no travel advisory’ that weekend, but if travel between San Francisco and the North Bay Area is necessary, there are several ways to get to your destination. 1. Golden Gate Transit bus service will be allowed to cross the Bridge. 2.Golden Gate Ferry will be offering expanded service that weekend, including late night service. 3. Just use an alternate route like the Richmond bridge or the Bay bridge. You can also ride your bike or walk across the 1.7 mile span of the bridge because the eastern side will remain open to pedestrians.What crews are working on is replacing the plastic tubes used to separate opposing lanes of traffic. During the heavy morning traffic southbound lanes are expanded to accommodate commuter traffic from the north into San Francisco and in the evening the tubes are shifted to allow north bound commuters out of San Francisco. The new barrier system will provide a safer and more efficient system of dividing opposing lanes of traffic.The barrier will be installed on the 1.7-mile-long Bridge and on the approach portion of Highway 101, north of the Golden Gate Bridge,starting at Alexander Avenue. Using transfer machines, the barrier will be moved several times a day to create more lanes in a particular direction to accommodate variable traffic demands. This new movable median barrier system will enhance safety by reducing the potential for crossover collisions and will allow the Bridge District to more efficiently reconfigure lane changes to optimize traffic operations on the bridge. This could not come any sooner because of the head on collisions occurring on the bridge. Streetwise Special Delivery Inc. will be open during the weekend for all your package deliveries in the bay area.

Remembering Robin McLaurin Williams

On August 11, 2014 the world lost one of the greatest comedic geniuses of our time. When my husband told me Robin Williams was found dead in his Paradise Cay home near Tiburon, California from an apparent suicide. My heart ached for Robin Williams and his family. People in his life said he suffered from depression. It is so heartbreaking that he felt that there was no one or anything worth living for anymore. Depression is a terrible illness. Robin Williams was born in was born in Chicago, Illinois. He moved with his family to Woodacre, California when he was 16. Robin Williams called the last forty something years in the San Francisco Bay Area his home. I never had the chance to see him in person doing standup comedy in the 1970s in the San Francisco area. He was such a funny man with a warm heart. I definitely remembering watching him on the Mork & Mindy television show. My all-time favorite movie of his was 'Mrs. Doubtfire'. Rest in peace Robin William’s thank you for the many years of laughter.

A Tribute to Nelson Mandela

(July 18, 1918 – December 5, 2013)

When I heard on Thursday December 5^th that Nelson Mandela passed away, my heart hurt. It hurt for the struggle he endured throughout his life and for the passing of one of our great leaders in this crazy mixed up world of ours. All that day, I was remembering February 11, 1990--the day he walked out of prison, after serving 27 years for encouraging black South Africans to go on strike and battling South African apartheid with non-violent protests. I remember standing in a crowd of 58,000 people in the middle of the field, at the Oakland Coliseum July 1, 1990. When he approached the stage, the crowd went wild. I started to cry; and so did everyone around me. When the crowd finally calmed down, Nelson Mandela began to speak. A quiet calm came over the 58, 000 people-- everyone was hanging on his every word. I remember how in awe I was at this man who had endured so, but forgave his captors. He said ''Despite my 71 years, at the end of this visit, I feel like a young man of 35. I feel like an old battery that has been recharged. And if I feel so young, it is the people of the United States of America that are responsible for this." He also said, he had to come to the Bay Area because cities such as Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco were among the early adopters of ordinances calling for divestment of stocks in American companies doing business in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was a man that we should all inspire to emulate. He will live forever in my heart. Nelson Mandela changed the world with his actions. His life journey will always be beacon of equality & hope for all. My favorite quote from Nelson Mandela is:

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” R.I.P. President Mandela.

BART Strikes Again! Commuters Are Angry!

The workers for BART failed again to come to an agreement with management. So they  went on strike again. Just a little over four months of there first strike in July. Most of the commuters  that take BART into San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley from the out lining areas are angry. I have a friend that takes BART from Oakland to Fremont and then takes the bus to Milpitas. She told me her commute today is horrible. She had to get up three hours earlier to catch the bus, 4 transfers later and still got to work late. I could see why commuters are angry. I think that the BART employees are being  unreasonable. They are fortunate they have a job. There are a lot of people who have been looking for a job for years. A Oakland man was arrested for throwing a traffic cone at a picketing BART striker. If BART employees don't come to an agreement then, it could get more violent.

Brawl On Hippie Hill In San Francisco On 420 Day

 

What is 420 day? 420 day is April 20^th the day that marijuana smokers get together and smoke out. It is considered their holiday. San Francisco California has a place called Hippie Hill. Well on April 20^th a brawl took place on Hippie Hill. A few idiots went to San Francisco’s Hippie Hill with one thing in mind to cause trouble. Stoners are chilled laid back people. When you put people that consume a lot of alcohol and other drugs in the mix with weed smokers you have a disaster in the making. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for the legalization of marijuana. It is situations like this that give most marijuana smokers a bad rap. This is defiantly not helping the cause for legalizing marijuana.

Michelle Shocked Went on a Homophobic Tirade at a San Francisco Club

I saw Michelle Shocked in the late 90’s at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga California. My husband played the drums with her during that time. He used to tell me that B…. is crazy. Well, he was right. Michelle Shocked went on a homophobic tirade at Yoshi’s in San Francisco on March 17, 2013. She said "I live in fear that the world will be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry” and “God Hates Fags”. The audience was yelling for her to stop and started leaving. Yoshi’s pulled the plug on her. A spokesperson for Yoshi’s in San Francisco said that was the first time they had to pull the plug.  Michelle Shocked gave ridiculous apology. She said “I do not, nor have I ever, said or believed that God hates homosexuals (or anyone else). I said that some of His followers believe that.” She said confusingly “When I said… ‘Michelle Shocked says God hates f**s,’ I was predicting the absurd way my description of, my apology for, the intolerant would no doubt be misinterpreted.”  Michelle also went on to say, “But I am damn sorry,” she said. “If I could repeat the evening, I would make a clearer distinction between a set of beliefs I abhor, and my human sympathy for the folks who hold them.” Yea, she is crazy referring to herself in the third person. I did not meet her, but I met her husband and he seemed very strange. Michelle Shocked’s name fits her. She shocked the world and her career as well. We do not need anyone on stage spewing that kind of hate.

Attempted Robbery by Four Suspects at a San Francisco Marijuana Dispensary

While listening to the news this morning I heard there was a standoff at a marijuana dispensary in San Francisco. I thought these criminals are bold or were they just stupid. These dumb idiots were probably getting high, ran out of weed and decided to rob a marijuana dispensary. On March 6, 2013 at 2100 Jennings Street about 3:50 a.m. a robbery was taking place. When San Francisco police arrived on the scene they saw three males with ski masks outside the building. When they saw the police they ran and were caught a couple of blocks from the scene. There was a suspect who barricaded himself inside. After about seven hours the fourth suspect was arrested without getting himself killed. These stupid idiots needed to be caught. What were they thinking? Oh yea! They weren’t. All that weed smoking got rid of their common sense.

Baltimore Ravens Win Super Bowl

Super Bowl XLVII was one of the most hype games ever. The Harbaugh brothers finally met in Super Bowl XLVII. They came close last year, but Jim Harbaugh the younger brother and his team could not pull it off. Most the sports analysts and sports fans were going for the 49ers. They were so underestimating the Baltimore Ravens. When the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens were going to the Super Bowl, my husband born and raised in Baltimore and a San Francisco 49er fan all his life was telling everyone don’t underestimate the Ravens. The first half of the game looked like Baltimore Ravens with a 21-6 lead and their momentum was going to carry them to a victory. When Baltimore’s Jacoby Jones ran back a 109 kick return in the third quarter opener it seemed to look like Baltimore Ravens were on their way to victory. The 49ers had the ball it was 3^rd down and 13 yard to go for a first down and the stadium lights went out on the San Francisco 49ers side. The lights went out for 35 minutes. The first thing I said was they pulled the plug to stop the Ravens from getting the ball back and scoring. After the light came back on the San Francisco 49ers went on a 23 point scoring frenzy making the score 34-29. It look like the lights going off was a definitely in the 49ers favor. It was not meant to be the final score was 34-31 Baltimore Ravens. San Francisco 49ers fans don’t be bitter, the 49ers played their heart out they should be proud. There is always next year.

Giant's Win World Series

The San Francisco Giants win another World Series title. This is the Giants 6^th title, to go with their 1905, 1921, 1922, 1954 and 2010 titles. There has been one other National League team to have a sweep a team in the World Series, the 1990 Cincinnati Reds. The San Francisco Giants won two games straight at home, 8 to 3 and 2 to 0. The Giants went to Detroit won game three 2 to 0. The San Francisco Giants won the series in the fourth game with a sweep of Detroit in the 10^th inning 4 to 3. This was a team effort. San Francisco took an early lead. Pence hit a one-hop drive over the center-field fence for a double and Brandon Belt tripled on the next pitch for a 1 to 0 lead in the second inning. The third inning, Cabrera gave the Tigers a reason to think this might be their night. He hit a two run home run giving the Detroit the lead 2 to1. The Giants put a dent in Detroit's confidence. Giants Scutaro led off the sixth with a single and then Posey sent a shot that sailed just inside the left-field foul pole for two more runs giving the Giants 3 to 2 lead. Then Cabrera turned around and hit a home run tying the game 3-3. The game continued all the way to the bottom of the 9^th with the score still tied. In the 10^th inning Marco Scutaro delivered one more key hit with a go-ahead single with two outs in the 10th inning giving the Giants the lead 4-3. In the bottom of the 10^th Sergio Romo got Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera looking with his third strike for the final out.

The manager Bruce Bochy had the foresight to put this team together and it paid off big time.   The pitching was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in a World Series game. The hitting of the San Francisco Giants was also spectacular! The way Giants MVP of the series Pablo Sandoval put on a hitting clinic in game one was incredible. I was so excited that the Giants won the World Series again.  I think that 2 championships in less than 3 years are pretty amazing.  This shows how great the San Francisco Giants are. San Francisco Giants fans supported their team no matter what. The Giant fans in Northern California are gearing up for a parade on October 31, 2012. FIREWORKS AROUND THE BAY AREA TO RING IN THE NEW YEAR

New Year’s Eve is always a fun time; people all over the world celebrate December 31. This is a time for people to reflect on the good and the bad of the previous year. Everyone is making New Year resolutions, promising themselves their going to stick to it. My New Years resolution is to help and many people I come in contact with.


There are a lot of parties going on around the Bay Area on New Years Eve here are some Fire Work displays to ring in the New Year. In San Francisco you can see fireworks at Embarcadero-Pier 14, Epic Roasthouse and Waterbar, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, and Hotel Vitale to name a few. In the East Bay the Alameda Port and Hornblower Cruise & Events in Berkeley has fireworks displays. Solano County Vallejo has a fireworks display at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. The South bay doesn’t have fireworks, but you can still ring in the New Year at the Agenda Bar and Lounge and the Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge & Restaurant in San Jose.

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS HEAD FOR THE NL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

It has been 8 years since the San Francisco Giants have been in the National League Championship. Cody Ross it a home run and drove in the go ahead run with a seventh-inning single, leading the San Francisco Giants to a  3 to 2 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Each game was decided by one run and  this made for a great series. If San Francisco can beat the Phillies it will be 21 years since the San Francisco Giants have been in the world series.


The last time was in 1989, it was the third game of that series. The San Francisco Giants were at home. They were warming up and all of a sudden the earth started shaking. It was the Loma Prieta earthquake that shook all of California. San Francisco Giants fans do you believe the San Francisco Giants can make it to the World Series? I don't know. I am not a fan of baseball, but I sure hope they do. Goooooooo Giants!

$194 MILLION GRANT TO
CALIFORNIA HIGH-SPEED RAIL

SACRAMENTO – Today, the California High-Speed Rail Authority was awarded a $194 million grant by the Federal Railroad Administration for preliminary engineering and environmental analysis.

“This funding award demonstrates again the continued confidence the federal government has in California and the progress we’re making in planning our state’s high-speed rail project,” said Curt Pringle, Chairman of the California High-Speed Rail Authority. “This will give California’s system the funds we need to complete the environmental review and bring us closer to realizing the enormous opportunity this project represents for our state.”

The Authority sought the $194 million, which will be matched dollar for dollar with state funds. The funding will contribute to the Authority’s ongoing environmental work and preliminary engineering in the segments connecting San Francisco to Los Angeles and Anaheim via the Central Valley.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority is the state entity responsible for planning, constructing and operating a high-speed rail system serving California's major metropolitan areas.

SAN BRUNO NEIGHBORHOOD GOES UP IN FLAMES

Image by DigitalGlobe-Imagery via FlickrOn Thursday September 9, 2010, a neighborhood in San Bruno was devastated when a natural gas line exploded. People where get home from work, children were getting home from after school activities. Ready to prepare dinner, get started on home work and do thing all of us do after a long day away home. Then all of a sudden everyone was running for their lives, as their neighborhood went up in flames. A lot of people escaped with their lives, but some did not. It is a good thing this happened during the day time instead of at night when people were in their beds asleep. The casualties could have been enormous.


This kind of thing could have happened in any neighborhood in this country. I hope and pray that PG&E move swiftly to find out the cause to this explosion and prevent it from happening again.
