Carnival Triumph the Cruise Ship from Hell

Taking a Cruise is a wonderful experience. I’ve taken three cruises and will continue to cruise for the rest of my life. That is not the case for the passengers of the cruise ship the Carnival Triumph. The Carnival Triumph left Galveston, Texas, on February 7, 2013 carrying 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew and was due to return there on February 11, 2013. On February 10, 2013 there was a fire in the engine room causing the ship to have no power. The passengers on the ship went through 5 days of pure hell. There was a shortage of food and raw sewage in the cabins and in the hallways. Passengers were forced to sleep on deck to get away from the stench. It was two days before a tug boat reached the Carnival Triumph to pull the 893 foot ship to the port in Mobile, Alabama. The Triumph arrived on February 14, 2013, passengers were cheering on deck and from the balconies they were finally getting off the filthy ship from hell. I don’t know what it is about Carnival Cruise line. Just over a year ago the Costa Concordia which was part of Carnival Cruise line. Hit the rocks and sank killing 32 people. It seems to me that Carnival Cruise line does not know how to hire the right crew to operate their ships or that the ships are too old and need to be tired. Carnival Cruise line had the nerve to offer a full refund and $500.00 to every passenger. I don’t think so!

Everyone I have talked to on the cruises I have been on has nothing good to say about Carnival Cruise Line. One of the biggest complaints was the service sucked. I have only cruised Royal Caribbean and there sister ship Celebrity. I must say Royal Caribbean is my favorite by far. I’m a service driven person. I feel that if I’m spending all that money I want my service and experience spot on. For $100.00 more I’ll pay that for peace of mind. I just want to say don’t be afraid to cruise it is so fun. I think everyone should experience one time.

Are Cruise Ships Safe?

I say yes they are as safe, as flying riding a train or riding in a car. On January 13, 2012 which happened to be Friday the 13^th the Costa Concordia Cruise Ship ran aground it hit some rocks near Giglio a small off the coast of Tuscany Italy; this torn a 50m hole in its hull of the ship with 4,000 plus people on board. Captain Schettino did not report the accident right away. The Costa Concordia hit the rocks at 9:45 p.m. he did not contact the coast guard until about 10:43 p.m., what in the world was he thinking. If he would have reported his mistake right away the six bodies and the sixteen people who are still missing did not have to die. When the Coast Guard arrived at the Costa Concordia Cruise ship the Captain Francesco Schettino of was not on the ship. His reason was that he fell and tripped into a life boat. Yea! Right just like the guy on the Titanic who grabbed the baby. One passenger on the ship Emily Lau said “when we got to the deck, people were just utterly hysterical mostly not because something was scary, but because there was no control.” “It was just utter madness. People were falling because the ship was actually sinking quite fast. And the next thing we heard was ‘abandon ship’,” Lau said. I have been on several cruises and every time there is a muster the first hour on the ship, so everyone on board knows what to do in case of an emergency. A lot of people I come across say they have not been on a cruise, I ask why? And they say because “I’m scared! what if the ship sinks I can’t drink all that water.” If you go through life being scared you miss out on new experiences and having a wonderful full life. Cruising is so fun my favorite cruise line is Royal Caribbean, their customer service is great. Most cruise ships are safe it is not the ship, it is the Captain and the crew that makes the cruise ship unsafe.

US Airways Serious Case of Double Standards

This young generation fashion statements are really out there. Some of the males go around with sagging pants. The definition of sag: is to hang or droop instead of remaining firm or level. My son when he was growing up would try and walk around with his pants sagging and I would pull them all the way down every time I saw them sagging.  After awhile he stopped sagging around me. On June 15, 2011 US Airways flight attendant told 20 year old DeShon Marman a University of New Mexico football player pull up his pants. His boxer shorts were showing and she thought that was indecent. The flight attendant claimed that he was showing a body part, but the surveillance video showed no skin showing. A US Airways spokeswoman Valerie Wunder said the airline’s dress code forbids “indecent exposure or inappropriate” attire. 

On June 9, 2011 US Airways let a man wearing women under wear bra panties and thigh high stockings fly. Valerie Wunder contradicted herself she said “we don’t have a dress code policy”
Wunder said “Obviously, if their private parts are exposed, that’s not appropriate…so if they’re not exposing their private parts, they’re allowed to fly. This is outrageous! I think that this is a case of discrimination, how can you let a man wearing ladies under garments fly and make a big stink out of someone wearing sagging pants. I know if a lady tried to fly wearing her underwear she would be banned. I say shame on you US Airways for their double standard.

THE SEA LION

THE SEA LION

Last Friday night a poor Sea Lion, was entangled around the neck and snout with fishing line on pier 39 in San Francisco. Every since the Loma Prieta earthquake Sea Lions have been floating on a platform at pier 39. San Francisco was planning Sea Loin anniversary celebration, but with Oscar plight that’s what I’m calling him the celebration was postponed. Oscar The Sea Loin is so scared he swam away from pier 39 in San Francisco sometime late Friday night early Saturday morning. Oscar The Sea Lion swam 100 miles all the way to Moss Landing in Monterey County. On Thursday rescuers attempted to catch Oscar The Sea Lion, but he was to quick and managed to avoid capture. I’m wondering why they didn’t tranquilize Oscar the Sea Lion if it doesn’t hurt him, so they can capture him and get him some help. Well Oscar The Sea Lion is swimming some where out in the sea, so if you spot Oscar The Sea Lion call the Marine Mammal Center (831) 633-6298. Oscar I’m praying for your safe rescue.

Why All The Train Tragedies

What's with the recent tragedies involving local transit trains? In the past twelve days two people have been hit and killed in VTA LightRail accidents, and both deaths occurred within two blocks of one another.(Southwest Expwy and Bascom//and Southwest Expwy and Fruitdale). Ten days previous to this, at least three more pedestrians were run down by AMTRAK trains forther North in the Bay area.

It wouldn't seem that EASY to get hit and killed by a train..., unless alchohol, drugs, suicide, or insanity were involved. One or more of these examples may have been present, however...is it also possible our local mass transit could be made SAFER??? Could more safety measures or devices be built at or near rail stops and stations...where most accidents occur? Just a thought!

Perhaps more safety measures are also needed nationally! The terrible collision of two transit trains in Washington DC this week killed at least nine people. Too many deaths seem to be occuring during what is supposed to be the safest way to travel. Hopefully, the powers that be (NTSB and others) will take stock...and take action to make train travel safer for passengers AND, for pedestrians.

Finally, motorists should also remain cautious and respectful of railway intersections. I've noticed people running past the blinking red light a few too many times lately. Why take any kind of chance around trains? Perhaps the laws for regular autos, should be similiar to the precautions buses always take. (Making that extra STOP at the tracks) Let's all get BACK ON TRACK.
